PROJECT 39 / Starts Monday, August 23, 2010 On Monday, August 23, 2010, Shane Lusk will launch "Project 39." Project 39 is something that will help Shane meet his personal goals on a bicycle and in his racing wheelchair. Shane graduated Florida State University April 30, 2010 with a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences and then spent the summer training up and coming motocross stars at his Built Lusk Tough facility in Bainbridge, Georgia. Summer of 2010 marked Shane's largest number of full-time trainees as well as the first ever Camp featuring himself AND Ezra. Shane will still betaking on select riders and doing weekend camps through the Fall and Winter but with Florida State University out of the way unil January, Shane wants to take advantage of his time and complete Project 39. Project 39 will force Shane to follow a training program that will lead up to him completing 39 miles on a road bike by January 2011. The 39 miles connect his hometown with his new home in Tallahassee, Florida - so from Bainbridge, Georgia to Tallahassee, Florida. The most he has ever cycled at one time is 15 miles and the fastest average speed has been 14.2 miles per hour. This will certainly be an accomplisment considering never cyled half the goal distance and having been told he would be in a motor-powered wheelchair for life and need full aid. And to top that off, he is dusting off the old racing wheelchair to compete in the 2011 Disney World Half Marathon in January. In 2007, he won it with a time of one hour and thirty-six minutes. Of course, he plans to make the 2011 Half-marathon in LESS than one hour and thirty-six minutes. Check back for video and text updates. |
